Somalia's urban centers are experiencing significant commercial and infrastructure reconstruction. Economic activity in Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Berbera, and Kismayo includes large commercial water bottling plants, reverse-osmosis (RO) desalination installations, beverage factories, commercial ice plants serving the marine fisheries sector, and light chemical manufacturing.
The chemical procurement profile is dominated by water potabilization and desalination. Due to high groundwater salinity and arid conditions, commercial water bottlers and humanitarian installations consume high volumes of RO membrane antiscalants, membrane cleaning acids (Citric Acid), and disinfection agents (Calcium Hypochlorite 70%). Beverage bottling plants consume food-grade Caustic Soda and sanitizers, while the construction sector utilizes concrete admixtures and calcium carbonate.
Consignments are routed via sea freight from Mombasa to the ports of Mogadishu, Berbera, and Kismayo, or via overland road freight from Nairobi through Mandera/Moyale. All shipments feature heavy-duty seaworthy and tropicalized packaging.
