CAS 7697-37-2 · Technical Grade · Liquid
Acid pickling agents, rust converters, alkaline electro-cleaners, and solvent degreasers for metal fabrication, galvanizing, and electroplating in Kenya.
Metal cleaning and pickling chemicals supplied by Kiki's in Kenya include Hydrochloric Acid 33% for ambient steel pickling, Sulfuric Acid 98% for heated bath pickling, Phosphoric Acid 85% for rust conversion, and Caustic Soda for hot degreasing.
Metal cleaning is the chemical treatment of metallic surfaces to remove oil, oxides, scale, and rust prior to coating, welding, or plating.
Key Facts
Primary Use Cases
Metal surface preparation involves a two-stage chemical treatment: hot alkaline degreasing followed by acid pickling.
Hot Caustic Soda baths (60–80°C) strip heavy shop oils, anti-rust waxes, and cutting lubricants from steel components prior to pickling.
Hydrochloric Acid (15–18% working bath concentration) or Sulfuric Acid (10–15% heated bath at 60°C) reacts with iron oxides (FeO, Fe2O3), forming soluble ferrous chlorides or sulfates. Phosphoric Acid 85% pickles steel while depositing a protective iron phosphate conversion layer that enhances paint adhesion.
Alkaline Degreasing
Immerse steel parts in a hot Caustic Soda (5–10% NaOH) bath to remove oil and grease.
Water Rinse
Rinse in clean overflow water tanks to carry over alkali into the acid bath.
Acid Pickling
Submerge in Hydrochloric Acid 15% or Sulfuric Acid 12% bath to strip mill scale and rust oxides.
Rinse & Phosphating / Passivation
Rinse with water and dip in dilute Phosphoric Acid or alkali rinse to passivate and prevent flash rusting.
