Quick Answer โ€” Wastewater & Effluent Treatment

Wastewater and effluent treatment chemicals supplied by Kiki's in Kenya include Aluminium Sulfate 17% for primary coagulation, Calcium Chloride for heavy metal and phosphate precipitation, and Sulfuric Acid 98% and Caustic Soda for NEMA pH neutralization.

Wastewater treatment is the chemical processing of industrial trade effluent to remove suspended solids, heavy metals, toxic organics, and extreme pH prior to discharge.

Key Facts

  • โ€ขAluminium Sulfate 17% coagulates organic TSS and lowers COD in industrial effluent.
  • โ€ขCalcium Chloride precipitates soluble fluorides and heavy metals into pressable sludge.
  • โ€ขNEMA 2024 regulations enforce discharge standards on COD, BOD, TSS, and pH (6.5-8.5).

Technical Process

Industrial effluent treatment involves multi-stage chemical unit operations: equalization, pH neutralization, chemical coagulation/flocculation, and sludge dewatering.

High-turbidity trade effluent containing colloidal dye, organic COD/BOD, and heavy metals is first neutralized with Sulfuric Acid 98% or Caustic Soda lye to pH 6.5โ€“7.5.

Aluminium Sulfate (Alum 17%) or Calcium Chloride is dosed to precipitate soluble phosphate, fluorides, and suspended solids into insolubilized chemical sludge for dissolved air flotation (DAF) or clarifier removal.

Standard Application Process

  1. 1

    Equalization & pH Neutralization

Homogenize raw factory effluent in equalization tanks and adjust pH to 6.5โ€“7.5 with acid or alkali.

  2. 2

    Chemical Coagulation Dosing

Inject Aluminium Sulfate (100โ€“300 ppm) under flash mixing to break emulsion stability and form micro-flocs.

  3. 3

    Flocculation & Heavy Metal Precipitation

Add Calcium Chloride or organic polymers to aggregate micro-flocs into heavy settling sludge.

  4. 4

    Clarification & Effluent Discharge Testing

Separate sludge via DAF or clarifiers; test COD, BOD, TSS, and pH before final compliant discharge.
