Commercial n-Hexane (CAS 110-54-3, UN 1208) supplied in 154kg and 160kg steel drums by KIKI'S Industrial Chemicals for…
CAS 110-54-3 · Industrial Extraction Grade · Liquid
Aliphatic hydrocarbon solvation of natural rubber, polyisoprene, and tackifier resins for high-tack tyre retreading bonding cements and vulcanizing solutions.
Commercial n-Hexane dissolves masticated natural rubber and hydrocarbon tackifiers to formulate tyre retreading cements that flash off in 5 minutes, generating aggressive green tack and deep vulcanised bond strength without solvent blisters under autoclave pressure.
Rubber cement compounding is the dissolution of elastomeric polymers in aliphatic solvents to create fast-drying adhesives for tyre retreading and rubber vulcanisation.
Key Facts
Primary Use Cases
In rubber cement compounding, non-polar solvent dynamics dictate elastomer dissolution and tack formation:
Natural rubber sheets (SMR 20 / Pale Crepe) are masticated on two-roll open mills to reduce polymer molecular weight and incorporate zinc oxide, stearic acid, sulfur, and vulcanizing accelerators. The milled rubber compound is transferred to explosion-proof churn dissolvers charged with Commercial n-Hexane and secondary aromatic solvents (Toluene). Hexane solvates non-polar polyisoprene chains over 3 to 5 hours, creating a smooth, brushable rubber cement at 12% to 18% solids.
Hydrocarbon resins (C5 aliphatic resins) and coumarone-indene tackifiers are dissolved to boost immediate surface stickiness. Because commercial hexane has a boiling range of 65°C to 70°C and high vapor pressure, applied cement coats flash off within 3 to 8 minutes, leaving an aggressive, sticky rubber film ready to bond the precured tread onto buffed tyre casings.
Tyre casings fitted with fresh precured tread rubber are enclosed in flexible rubber envelopes and loaded into vulcanization chambers (curing autoclaves at 110°C to 125°C under 6 bar pressure for 3 to 4 hours). Because hexane flashes off completely before bonding, no residual solvent is trapped to cause blisters, ply separation, or tread blow-outs under high-mileage road conditions.
KIKI'S Industrial Chemicals supplies commercial n-Hexane and Toluene in factory steel drums for leading tyre retreading and rubber compounding workshops across Kenya.
