CAS 14807-96-6 · Industrial Micronized Grade · Powder
Natural dry mineral lubrication and anti-blocking surface dusting for extruded rubber hoses, automotive weather-stripping, and electrical power cable jackets.
Industrial Talc Powder (Mohs hardness 1.0) is used as an anti-tack dusting agent on uncured rubber sheets to prevent fusion during pallet storage, on mandrels for hose vulcanisation release, and inside multi-core cables to allow effortless outer jacket stripping.
Anti-tack surface dusting is the application of soft, inert mineral powders onto warm, tacky elastomeric surfaces to prevent sticking and facilitate assembly.
Key Facts
Primary Use Cases
In rubber extrusion and cable manufacturing, talc powder provides essential physical anti-blocking action:
When raw rubber compounds (natural rubber, EPDM, SBR) exit two-roll mills or profile extruders, the warm, tacky polymer surfaces adhere tenaciously to one another upon contact. Uncured rubber slabs pass through continuous dip tanks containing an aqueous slurry of talc powder or through electrostatic powder dusting boxes. The talc platelets form a dry microscopic boundary layer that completely blocks polymer chain interdiffusion, allowing sheets to be stacked on pallets for months without sticking.
In multi-core electrical power and telecom cable extrusion, internal copper insulated conductors pass through a continuous talc dusting chamber immediately prior to the outer PVC or rubber jacket extrusion cross-head. The talc powder acts as an inert dry lubricant that prevents the hot outer sheath from fusing to the inner wire insulation, ensuring electricians can strip outer jackets effortlessly on job sites.
When manufacturing curved automotive radiator hoses and hydraulic lines, uncured rubber sleeves are pulled over steel or aluminum shaping mandrels before entering steam autoclaves. Talc powder applied to the mandrel allows smooth sliding during loading and prevents rubber vulcanization bonds from fusing to the metal tool, ensuring easy post-cure stripping.
KIKI'S Industrial Chemicals supplies screened, dry 300 and 400 mesh Talc Powder with high slip properties, free from abrasive silica grit that could abrade cable insulation.
Extrusion Profile Exit
Extrude warm, tacky rubber profile or feed multi-core cable bundle toward the cross-head extruder.
Electrostatic Powder Dusting
Pass extruded profile through enclosed electrostatic dusting box to apply uniform microscopic talc coat.
Outer Jacket Extrusion or Stacking
Extrude outer PVC jacket over dusted cable cores or stack dusted rubber sheets on pallets without sticking.
