Mineral processing plant clarifier and tailings effluent neutralization pond with chemical dosing systems

Ferrous sulphate, flocculants, and neutralizing agents for cyanide destruction, heavy metals precipitation, and acid mine drainage control in East African mining.

Standard Application Process

  1. 1

    Cyanide Destruction

Dosing ferrous sulphate (Fe2+) into carbon-in-leach (CIL) tailings slurries to complex free and WAD cyanide into insoluble iron cyanide species (Prussian blue).

  2. 2

    Heavy Metal Co-Precipitation

Adjusting pH to 8.0 - 9.5 with lime or caustic soda, causing ferrous and ferric hydroxides to co-precipitate soluble arsenic, copper, zinc, and cobalt.

  3. 3

    Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) Neutralization

Blending alkaline reagents with iron coagulants to neutralize acidic seepage and settle dense hydroxide precipitates.

  4. 4

    Flocculation & Thickening

Dosing anionic polyacrylamide to accelerate floc settling in tailings thickeners, enabling clean decant water recycling back to grinding circuits.

FAQs — Mining Effluent Treatment & Mineral Processing

Technical and process guidance for mining effluent treatment & mineral processing in Kenya and East Africa.

Ferrous ions react with free cyanide and weak acid dissociable (WAD) cyanide to form ferrocyanide complexes, which precipitate as insoluble Prussian blue (Fe4[Fe(CN)6]3), permanently locking cyanide in non-toxic solid form.
